CHICAGO + FOALS

Embarked on a little trip to Chicago last weekend to see one of my all-time favourite bands Foals and to cruise and experience the windy city for a couple days. Epic live tunes, keg stands, good food, mechanical bulls, patron tequila, wild house parties, intense hangovers, hooters and watching Jill turn down the lead singer were just a few of the highlights.

If you haven't heard of foals, or if your not already in love with foals, get your head out of the gutter and have a listen. Their sound is as fresh and unique as it gets and well the lead singer, Andrew Mears voice could pretty much make any female on the planet weak at the knees. Take a listen to "spanish sahara" for evidence.

TOKYO POLICE CLUB

Tokyo police Club are a four piece from Ontario, Canada that until recently have been relatively unknown. The bands second album "Champ" was released in june this year and they been touring the US and Canada for the past month or so. I watched them play last Wednesday in Grand Rapids for a measly 15$, along with a band called Arkells, that are definetly worth a listen.

GRAND RAPIDS ART PRIZE

An open art competition, giving away the world's largest art prize. Part arts festival, part social experiment,this international art contest is decided solely by the public vote and gives any person the opportunity to create their own piece within the city . Cruised through Grand Rapids the other day and took a few shots of some pretty out there and interesting pieces. This is only a small selection of the whole competition. Should be interesting to see who will take home a cheeky 250K for first prize.

WORLD OF JENKS

Andrew Jenks, is an insanely open minded and wise dude from New York who has previously gained recognition for the HBO show, Room 35, where he spent a summer in a retirement home as a 19 year old college student, aiming to educate people about the value of elders in society and the knowledge and wisdom that they offer. His new series titled World of Jenks has been signed by MTV and follows him as he delves into the lives of a vast variety of people from all walks of life. As shit as most shows on Mtv are, this series looks to be a clear winner with the first ep blowing me away as andrew documented Maino, a seriously ghetto and badass rapper from the ghettos of Brooklyn through his day to day life. Amazing shit. check the trailer below.
